16 Miles!

16 Miles!

Almost two years ago I started a journey to get fit and lose some unwanted poundage. That was then. Now I am on a journey to be adventurous! My gorgeous wife has put up with me being out of shape and unmotivated for over 6 years. I turned that corner and now am training for my first Marathon and first long distance trail race. I found Zero Drop and worked to start Altra Footwear with Golden and Brian and that has provided me the ability to improve my form and avoid knee pain and running injury that I dealt with for years prior. It is great to be able to go out and be active with my beautiful bride. She has certainly challenged me. Last year I did two half marathons, one with her, and three Triathlons. It certainly adds a great element to our marriage to be able to...

My First Triathlon

My First Triathlon

Well, I took the plunge. For those of you who know me and my family I have been entrenched in triathlon for almost 8 years now with a wife who competes at the elitist level in the state of Utah. She is constantly pushing for a top 3 spot overall at the majority of her races. Just this year alone she was top 45 at Ironman St. George, 1st overall at Daybreak, 2nd overall at the Tuacahn Duathlon, 2nd overall at Salem, on the winning team at the Kida 24 hour run/bike relay, 1st overall at the Riverton Half Marathon, and down right awesome!! So now, I guess it is my turn. I have worked the past 11 months to get myself back into shape (still not quite where I want to be, but getting closer). I have now done a 10k and a 15k race and I guess it was time to take the...

7.5 mile run with Curt Munson & Olympian Grant Robison

So the Altra team took Curt Munson and Grant Robison out on an elevation run starting at 5200 feet this week. They are from Lansing, MI and used to -50 feet. So needless to say this was a bit of a change for them. We took off up the trail by the water towers in Orem and ran in the shadow of Mt. Timpanogos. We started the run about 7:30pm (which also was 9:30pm for these guys). We ran up the Stairway trail and turned off towards the hall of oaks/rock pile trail. At the rock pile we turned off towards trail 51 and the ridgeline. We came along trail 51 down to dry canyon. By this point is was getting dark. So now we have 2 individuals, from out of state that are used to rolling hills (if that – Grant is a 1500 meter track guy) and elevation no higher than 100...

Commute To Work

Stayed in Orem last night, needed to get to AF for work. Wife had the car. So I took the ride to work on the bicycle. A good 10 mile ride save the fact that snow was sharding my eyes on my way the entire way. It was great to be out on a road bike. I don’t think that I have ever ridden that far on a road bike, it has always been mountain bike for me whether road or trail. Then after work I made the 5 mile bike ride to PowerTri in Lehi to meet my wife. So all in all a nice day too and from work on the bike. Mix a workout with the commute is a great way to get it in when time is short, just wish I could do it more often (and it was warmer and not snowing!).

My Longest Run To Date

Sun and fun today. We had snow yesterday, but thank goodness it cleared up and was a pretty nice day today. Well I took advantage of it. Mckayla had some testing for a gifted student program up on the east side today. We couldn’t be there with her and it took about 90 minutes so Les dropped me off at the guard station at Millcreek and went to run some errands with the other two. I took off up the canyon at a very easy warm up pace and then after about 3/4 mile got to the Rattlesnake Gulch/Pipeline trailhead. There I took off up the trail, I felt good, still a little tight and at this point it had been all up hill. About a mile up the trail it forked off and I took the pipeline trail opposite of the grandeur peak trail (will have to go back and do that one...
